Christ, as He was dying on the cross, gave Mary as a mother to us all.
As Mary watched her only Son dying a cruel and tortureous death, she knew and understood God's will and silently offered her only Son to the Father. God's prophecy to Adam and Eve is fulfilled. Jesus and Mary crushed the serpent's head and regained our right to heaven. Each had a particular role, but the intentions were identical. We can only imagine the pain and sorrow she felt, but she was faithful to the Word and has become Our Mother in Heaven. We know she was present at Calvary because in John 19:25 it says: Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala.".
We see the Mother of God thourougly exhausted bearing the burden of pain that only a mother could when she sees her child suffering as Jesus did. Through all this, Jesus hands her over as a Mother to us all. She understands our sorrows, our burdens, our hurts and we can always go to her in our time of need for comfort.
Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows O God, in whose Passion, according to the prophecy of Simeon, a sword of grief pierced through the most sweet soul of Thy glorious Blessed Virgin Mother Mary: grant that we, who celebrate the memory of her Seven Sorrows, may obtain the happy effect of Thy Passion, Who lives and reigns world without end. Amen.
